Membership Options

Regular Membership

(Membership to CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston)

  • 4,000 hours of work experience in the investment decision-making process completed in a minimum of 36 months.
  • Passed CFA Level I,  CIPM Program Level II Exam or Standards of Practice Exam.

Affiliate Membership

(Membership to CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston)

  • One year of work experience in the investment decision-making process. OR
  • Be a teacher or research fellow in the field of financial or economic analysis at a college or university OR
  • Be regularly employed for at least three years in a field closely allied to financial analysis and, in the opinion of the CFA Society Boston Board of Directors, make a contribution to the programs and work of CFA Society Boston OR
  • Have three years of work experience in financial analysis
  • Enrollment in CFA program with the intention of taking CFA Level I

Apply for Affiliate Membership 

Adjunct Membership

(Membership to CFA Society Boston only)

  • Hold a position in the profession of investment management or in a related field
  • Submit a completed adjunct Membership Application
  • Submit your most recent resume
  • Submit a signed Sponsorship Form by your work supervisor, AND
  • Submit a signed Sponsorship Form by two Regular CFA Institute members of the Corporation

(If the Regular CFA Institute member requirement cannot be met, then a supplementary sponsorship by an additional work supervisor is required.)

Once the CFA Society Boston Board has approved your application for Adjunct Membership, you will be billed the annual dues of $175.

Candidate Membership

(Membership to CFA Society Boston only)






Student Membership

(Membership to CFA Society Boston only)



  • Currently enrolled for the CFA Exam for Level I, II or III  
  • Complete the Candidate Membership Application and submit with your current resume 
  • Ask your supervisor to sign and submit a Sponsorship Form, OR
  • Ask a Regular member of CFA Institute OR CFA Society Boston to submit a signed Sponsorship Form
  • Include your CFA Institute ID# to confirm enrollment in the CFA Exam

Candidate Membership is complimentary for each year you remain eligible. Once the CFA Society Boston Board has approved your application for Candidate Membership, you will receive a new membership welcome email.

Apply for Candidate Membership

  • Be a junior or senior undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor's degree in business or finance, or related field, OR
  • Be a graduate student, enrolled full or part-time, pursuing an MBA or a master's degree in a business-related major
  • Submit a completed Student Membership Application
  • Submit your most recent resume
  • Submit a signed Sponsorship Form by a Professor of Finance, Business, or Economics, AND
  • Submit a signed Sponsorship Form by one Regular member of CFA Institute, who is also a member of CFA Society Boston

(If the Regular member of CFA Institute requirement cannot be met, then a supplementary sponsorship by an additional Professor of Finance, Business, or Economics is required)

Student Membership is complimentary for each year you remain eligible. Once the CFA Society Boston Board has approved your application for Student Membership, you will receive a new member welcome email.

Please note, a Student Membership cannot extend for a period that exceeds four fiscal years or any part thereof and Student Membership is available only to individuals who do not otherwise qualify for Affiliate or Regular membership. Also, in order to renew Student Membership, you must complete the Student Renewal Application each year you wish to be a member.
