Charterholder Membership

(Membership to CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston)

  • Passed all three levels of the CFA Program
  • At least 4,000 hours of relevant work experience over 36+ months

Professional Membership

(Membership to CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston)

  • Receive a passing score for the Level I CFA Program exam, Level II CIPM® exam, RBA Netherlands exam, the self-administered Standards of Practice exam or an ASIP holder.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/work experience
  • At least 4,000 hours of relevant work experience over 36+ months
  • Professional references

Affiliate Membership

(Membership to CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston)

  • One year of work experience in the investment decision-making process. OR
  • Be a teacher or research fellow in the field of financial or economic analysis at a college or university OR
  • Be regularly employed for at least three years in a field closely allied to financial analysis and, in the opinion of the CFA Society Boston Board of Directors, make a contribution to the programs and work of CFA Society Boston OR
  • Have three years of work experience in financial analysis
  • Enrollment in CFA program with the intention of taking CFA Level I

Adjunct Membership

(Membership to CFA Society Boston only)

  • Hold a position in the profession of investment management or in a related field
  • Submit a completed adjunct Membership Application
  • Submit your most recent resume
  • Submit a signed sponsorship form by two Charterholder or Professional CFA Institute members of the Corporation 

(If the Charterholder or Professional CFA Institute member requirement cannot be met, then a supplementary sponsorship by an additional work supervisor is required.)

Once the CFA Society Boston Board has approved your application for Adjunct Membership, you will be billed the annual dues of $200.

Candidate Membership

(Membership to CFA Society Boston only)



  • Currently enrolled in the CFA Program (Level I, II, or III), or enrolled within the past 18 months of the most recent scheduled exam date, whether the exam was taken, deferred, or missed
  • Complete the Candidate Membership Application and submit with your current resume 
  • Include your CFA Institute ID# to confirm enrollment in the CFA Exam

Candidate Membership is complimentary for each year you remain eligible. Once the CFA Society Boston Board has approved your application for Candidate Membership, you will receive a new membership welcome email.

Student Membership

(Membership to CFA Society Boston only)



  • Be a junior or senior undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor's degree in business or finance, or related field, OR
  • Be a graduate student, enrolled full or part-time, pursuing an MBA or a master's degree in a business-related major
  • Submit a completed Student Membership Application
  • Submit your most recent resume
  • Submit a signed Sponsor form by a Charterholder member, Professional member, or Professor of Finance, Business, or Economics 

Student Membership is complimentary for each year you remain eligible. Once the CFA Society Boston Board has approved your application for Student Membership, you will receive a new member welcome email.

Please note, a Student Membership cannot extend for a period that exceeds four fiscal years or any part thereof and Student Membership is available only to individuals who do not otherwise qualify for Charterholder, Professional or Affiliate membership. Also, in order to renew Student Membership, you must complete the Student Renewal Application each year you wish to be a member.
