The Evolution of a Value Investor and Perspectives on the Current Market Environment

Since the start of the U.S. equity bull market that began after the financial crisis, value investors have consistently struggled against their growth-oriented peers. From April 2009 through the end of 2019, the Russell 1000 Growth Index outperformed the Russell 1000 Value Index on a price-only basis by 4.5% per annum. Year-to-date, the performance gap has worsened, with growth beating value by almost 3,000 basis points through the end of June.

With the value vs. growth discrepancy now at levels on par with the peak of the dot-com bubble, is this time different? Has value investing been rendered obsolete? What is the most intelligent way to move forward?

Join us on September 15, 2020 as CFA Society Boston hosts a webinar featuring legendary value investor, author, and Columbia Business School professor Joel Greenblatt, Managing Principal and Co-CIO of Gotham Asset Management. Joel will discuss how he values businesses, the future of value investing, and share his latest views on the market today. He will also be joined in the Q&A session by Gotham's Director of Research, Adam Barth.
