CFA Society Boston Young Leaders Meet Up
Practical Learning:
The Institutional Investment Cycle and the Investment Professionals Behind It

Now more than ever before, the role of the investment professional spans across numerous functions within the asset management industry.  The increasingly competitive landscape of the industry requires practitioners across different business units to demonstrate a deep level of investment product knowledge along with its practical use and application within the client framework.  James Bolante, CFA, CAIA will moderate a panel of industry practitioners who play a vital role in the institutional asset placement cycle.  The institutional investment cycle can be a long and complicated process that solicits the expertise and skillsets of many key influencers and investment decision makers.  The first objective of the panel discussion is to break down the investment cycle into 4 main components:

  1. Business Development and Client Relations
  2. James Bolante, CFA, CAIA - Fiera Capital
Corey Son, CFA - Acadian Asset Management

  3. The Portfolio Management Team
  4. John Tosi, CFA - Wompanoag Capital

  5. The Investment Consultant
  6. Dulari Pancholi, CFA, CAIA - NEPC

  7. The End Client / Plan Sponsor
  8. Alyssa Fiore, CFA -PRIM
    Andrew Gromer, CFA - PRIM

Secondly, the panel will identify and explain the types of engagements between the 4 main groups and how these interactions play a key role in how institutional mandates are awarded to investment management firms and their portfolio management teams.

Jim is a Vice President on the Fiera Capital Institutional Markets team where he serves as the primary liaison for several global institutional client and consultant relationships. He is focused on the team’s business development, consultant relations, and relationship management efforts.

Previously, Jim was an Assistant Vice President on the Fiera Capital institutional business development team. In this role, he was responsible for cultivating new business opportunities and maintaining thoughtful relationships across the entire institutional distribution channel. Prior to joining Fiera, Jim was a member of the institutional sales and marketing teams at GW&K Investment Management and The Boston Company Asset Management, LLC.

Jim received a BA in Economics from Boston University and an MBA from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. He was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designations and holds the Series 7 and 63 licenses with FINRA.
