CIBC has internship opportunities for the summer of 2024 that may work in one of the following areas depending on the needs of the firm.


Investment Team, Equity Analysis Summer Intern

Our summer internship program is designed to offer great work experience to complement your classroom training and career goals. We are devoted to finding, selecting and training interns who will make a positive impact on our company while offering a full learning experience in the discipline of equity analysis. The Intern will work alongside a lean, proven team of equity investment professionals, gaining technical and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

Specific internship responsibilities are determined closer to the start date and depend on the needs of the hiring department. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning the basics of equity investment research and portfolio management;
  • Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis on current and prospective investments, which may include any or all of the following: 
    • financial modeling, forecasting, and valuation analysis; 
    • ESG analysis, including targets, progress on targets and intentionality; 
    • company research, including identification of competitive advantages and risks; 
    • operational due diligence, for example, meeting with company management and/or attending investor events;
    • utilization of SEC filings, sell-side reports, industry research and web-based research;
    • listening to and summarizing public company earnings conference calls;
    • writing of investment reports;
    • assisting with thematic research;
    • communicating insights with the investment team.

Internship Basics

  • 10 week duration, some flexibility on start and end dates
  • 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday
  • Paid opportunity

Qualifications

This internship is for undergraduate students who are independent and self-motivated, with a strong and demonstrated interest in the public equity markets. 

The candidate should possess:

  • Intellectual curiosity and independence of thought;
  • Superior quantitative and analytical abilities;
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to express facts and ideas clearly both verbally and in writing;
  • Strong ability to read and write easily and extensively, as these abilities are integral components of the research process
  • Good judgment and professionalism in both work products and interactions;
  • Competency with Microsoft Office’s Excel; familiarity with either Bloomberg or Factset is helpful.

Client Service Summer Intern

CIBC is seeking motivated, goal-oriented individuals who are ready to apply their knowledge of business in a fast paced, real-world environment. Our intern will collaborate with various client service teams with the singular goal of providing excellent client service.

Responsibilities

Specific internship responsibilities are determined closer to the start date and depend on the needs of the hiring department. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • provide integral support for client service teams and special projects as assigned/requested;
  • run daily, monthly and quarterly asset allocations and performance reports;
  • assist in the production of client meeting books and portfolio reviews;
  • monitor daily trade, overdraft and distribution reports;
  • process various money movement and cash requests;
  • coordinate quarterly correspondence and communications to clients;
  • perform quarterly administrative and investment reviews, and file maintenance;
  • assist in resolving business issues using systems and data;
  • offer recommendations as to how to improve business processes and efficiencies;
  • may preform additional projects upon request.

  • Strong ability to read and write easily and extensively;
  • Superior time management and organizational skills;
  • Highly motivated with a desire to learn;
  • Works well within a team environment and is able to work across multiple teams;
  • Good judgment and professionalism in both work products and interactions;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Office applications; familiarity with either Bloomberg or Factset is helpful.
